 什么是党的“二十大”？

“二十大”为何如此重要？

党的全国代表大会和其所产生的中央委员会是中国共产党最高领导机关。

The National Congress and its standing committee are the supreme leadership bodies in the Communist Party of China.

党代会每五年召开一次，总结过去五年取得的成果，并科学谋划未来五年乃至更长时期党和国家事业发展的目标任务和大政方针。

They meet every 5 years to evaluate the progress of the past 5 years and to chart the course for the next half-decade — and beyond.

大会的两项主要职能是决策和选举。本次会议要对全面建成社会主义现代化强国两步走战略安排进行宏观展望，被认为是“在关键时刻召开的一次十分重要的大会”。

Their two primary agenda items are decision-making and elections. The Party's 20th National Congress will offer a general overview of China's two-stage strategic plan to build a great, modern socialist country in all respects. This is why it has been deemed, "an event of critical significance at a crucial time."

党代表怎么选？

今年将有2296名党代表参加16日召开的二十大。

A total of 2,296 delegates have been elected to the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, to be convened on Oct 16.

每次大会的代表人数会有不同，但党代表选举标准始终很严格，堪称四万里挑一。

The number changes but the election criteria have been always strict over the years.

二十大代表陆续抵京

二十大代表的选举在去年11月就开始了，从全国38个选举单位的9600万党员中选举产生。

The election began in November last year and the delegates are elected by 38 electoral units across the country to represent the Party's over 96 million members.
要想成为党代表，首先要获得提名，然后通过选举单位考核成为初步候选人，再进一步成为预备候选人，最后才能成为正式党代表。

To become a delegate, one need to: 1. be nominated, 2. pass electoral unit's evaluation, 3. become a preliminary and then preparatory candidate before finally been elected as a delegate.

党代表怎么选？

2296名代表来自社会各行各业。比如科技、国防、政法、教育、社会管理等领域。

Delegates come from all sectors of society, including science and technology, national defense and law, as well as education and social administration.
一些我们耳熟能详的人有：呼吸系统疾病专家钟南山、短道速滑运动员武大靖、航天员王亚平和改善山区女童教育的教师张桂梅。

Some of the current prominent figures among the delegates are, leading epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan; short-track skater and Winter Olympic medalist Wu Dajing; astronaut Wang Yaping; and Zhang Guimei, a teacher devoted to improving the education of young women in impoverished mountainous regions.

While many delegates are renowned, an increasing percentage of delegates are grassroots members.

二十大代表须具有较高的思想政治素质、较强的议事能力和良好的作风品行。

Every delegate is an excellent Party member in terms of ideology, political integrity, working capability and lifestyle.

其中，女党员619名，少数民族党员264名，涵盖了40个少数民族。

Among all the delegates this year, 619 are female, and 264 are from 40 different ethnic minority groups.

二十大双语金句

Our experience has taught us that, at the fundamental level, we owe the success of our Party and socialism with Chinese characteristics to the fact that Marxism works, particularly when it is adapted to the Chinese context and the needs of our times.

经过不懈努力，党找到了自我革命这一跳出治乱兴衰历史周期率的第二个答案，确保党永远不变质、不变色、不变味。

Through painstaking efforts, the Party has found a second answer to the question of how to escape the historical cycle of rise and fall. The answer is self-reform. By doing so, we have ensured that the Party will never change its nature, its conviction, or its character.

The wheels of history are rolling on toward China's reunification and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Complete reunification of our country must be realized, and it can, without doubt, be realized!

时代呼唤着我们，人民期待着我们，唯有矢志不渝、笃行不怠，方能不负时代、不负人民。

The times are calling us, and the people expect us to deliver. Only by pressing ahead with unwavering commitment and perseverance will we be able to answer the call of our times and meet the expectations of our people.

腐败是危害党的生命力和战斗力的最大毒瘤，反腐败是最彻底的自我革命。只要存在腐败问题产生的土壤和条件，反腐败斗争就一刻不能停，必须永远吹冲锋号。

Corruption is a cancer to the vitality and ability of the Party, and fighting corruption is the most thorough kind of self-reform there is. As long as the breeding grounds and conditions for corruption still exist, we must keep sounding the bugle and never rest, not even for a minute, in our fight against corruption.

全党必须牢记，全面从严治党永远在路上，党的自我革命永远在路上，决不能有松劲歇脚、疲劳厌战的情绪。

All of us in the Party must bear in mind that full and rigorous self-governance is an unceasing endeavor and that self-reform is a journey to which there is no end. We must never slacken our efforts and never allow ourselves to become weary or beaten.

党用伟大奋斗创造了百年伟业，也一定能用新的伟大奋斗创造新的伟业。

The Party has made spectacular achievements through its great endeavors over the past century, and our new endeavors will surely lead to more spectacular achievements.
